ABOUT ME

Hello! I’m George, a multi award-winning pianist and piano tutor based in York. I started learning piano as a child and from there, Music has been an essential part of my life. I completed my Master’s degree in Music at the University of York, Throughout my studies, I have won multiple prizes in international competitions, including Second Prize at the Franz Liszt International Youth Piano Competition (2023), First Prize at the Xiamen Music Season National Finals (2022). Over the years, I’ve performed both as a soloist and as part of ensembles. You can listen to some of my performances here.

Now based in York, I divide my time between teaching and performing. Teaching has always been one of my greatest passions — I have over four years of experience working with students ranging from young beginners aged five to adult learners, from early musical development to A-level preparation.

I believe music is a language — just like English — and everyone has the natural ability to learn it. Whether my students are young children taking their first steps in music, adults developing a new hobby, or seniors looking to enrich their lives through piano, I always find a teaching approach that suits them best.

My teaching has always been student-centred. My lessons are tailored to each learner’s goals — whether they are preparing for exams, aiming to perform, or simply learning for enjoyment — balancing solid technique with creative expression. Beyond playing the notes, I encourage my students to explore the deeper meaning of music: to appreciate the composer’s intentions, the beauty of music theory, and the creativity that brings every piece to life.

You can find more information about my teaching here.

Beyond music, I also enjoy photography and programming. I love wandering through the streets of York with my camera, capturing moments while listening to music. In my spare time, I enjoy coding and managing a Terraria game server that has attracted over 40,000 registered players — a community I’ve built and maintained over the years.

If you’re interested in learning piano — whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced player — I’d love to hear from you. Feel free to get in touch to arrange a trial lesson or ask any questions!
