I believe that teaching piano is more than passing on technique: it’s about inspiring a lifelong connection with music. My goal is that each student not only plays with confidence, but also understands the story behind the notes — the composer’s emotion, phrasing, harmony, and the structure that gives a piece its meaning.

Learning music is like learning a language. You wouldn’t expect someone to learn a language by only knowing how to pronounce the words without understanding their meaning, or by being able to read a story but not being able to tell one of their own.

That’s why, at the appropriate stage of each student’s learning, I introduce music theory , composition, improvisation, and music appreciation.

Every lesson is customized to each student’s interests, pace, and musical goals. Whether a student wants to pursue ABRSM exams, perform in concerts, or just enjoy music as a meaningful hobby, I design the path around you.

🎼 Lesson Types & Suitable Students

Age & Level
I teach students from around the age of five (or even younger if they can sit still for 20mins 🙂 ) through to adult learners returning to the piano. Whether you are a complete beginner or already have some experience, I offer tailored courses to suit yourneeds.

Style & Lesson Content
My teaching is rooted in classical music, while also encouraging students to explore other styles such as contemporary works, popular arrangements, and short character pieces to spark creativity. Lessons typically include repertoire study, technical development, sight-reading.

• In-person lessons (based in Fulford,York. I can travel to your place and I’m also welcome you to come to my place)

Lesson Duration & Price
I offer 30-minute(20£), 45-minute(30£), and 60-minute(40£) lesson options. You can choose the most suitable length and frequency according to suit your goals and schedule. Most of my student would have a 45-minute lesson every week.

🎹 Lesson Structure & Example (45-minute session)

Here’s what a typical 45-minute piano lesson might look like:

0–5 mins	Warm-up / Review	Go over previously learned pieces to check for note accuracy, rhythm, and overall fluency. Correct any basic technical or musical issues before moving on.
5–25 mins	Main Repertoire Study	Work on a new or current piece — discuss structure, phrasing, and musical interpretation.
25–40 mins	Sectional Practice	Focus on challenging passages, hands coordination, and expressive details.
40–45 mins	Review & Homework	Summarise key points of the lesson, set weekly practice goals, and give clear guidance for home practice.
